Acpharis Scientists’ Research Highlighted in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery

In the October 2011 issue of Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, research performed by Acpharis scientists was featured as a Research Highlight.

The article highlights a paper from the August 16, 2011 issue of PNAS in which Kozakov et. al. apply computational solvent mapping to a set of protein-protein interaction targets that have been pursued by pharmaceutical companies. The authors show that "druggable" interfaces consist of several “hot spots” that contribute to small molecule binding. The method was applied to unliganded structures of the proteins, showing these hot spots are conserved and can be detected prior to the discovery of any binder.
